Vince's children,
As the title says, I will be presenting a short talk tomorrow during lunch on behalf of the ACU inside the Pit on graphic design within an architectural (presentation) context. Those of you whom I have had the pleasure of working with in groups seem to have gotten me to do the layout for presentations over the last few years and because of that, I showcase some of the ways I go about doing it on time without having to worry and still maintain quality designs.
It's only an hour, but if you have time and aren't busy with anything, feel free to come sit and watch me blabber about something I enjoy doing.
Around 12pm @ The Pit
Your colleague,

NOMA Lab: A Precedent as You Proceed to The End
Though it adopts a different approach given its significantly downplayed context, it might be worth looking at some of the projects that are coming out that showcase the connections between architecture and cuisine such as 3XN's NOMA Lab.
There are several great precedents to look at for the basic operation of a culinary institute including:
HDR Architecture's Institute for the Culinary Arts in Omaha
Jorge Gracia's Culinary Art School
VAUMM's Basque Culinary Center
And of course, the esteemed el Bulli Culinary Research Foundation

Old, New Las Vegas
I know I'm going to sound annoying... but here are more links that I found that may help you guys. There's old photos and videos of performances from the past that use to be at the MGM, Bellagio and such...
UNLV Building Database
Hey guys!
I went to the library today and our librarian Zita Murphy emailed me this link:
I hope this can help you out with your buildings!
Old Photos
Hey guys,
if you haven't found these already, here's a link of some historical pictures:
There's some pix of The Aladdin, Tropicana and other hotels.
Cheers
Group pics
Here are some of the group pics that were taken during the trip, mostly during the Hoover Dam / Grand Canyon expedition.

People wanted more of the Hoover Dam bypass (which is much younger than the dam itself, but still a structural feat)

Fat people burger joint. (Famous!)
You have to eat inside with the garment on while the servers in scrubs serve you.

Taking in More Sights in Las Vegas
Any visit to Las Vegas mandates a trip to see the illuminated covered street known as the Freemont Street experience. Located in the downtown core of Las Vegas, this project was a collaboration among a collection of casinos in the old downtown core to create a remarkable spectacle to compete with the frenetic streetscape of the Las Vegas Strip.
Some of the more adventurous students in the party opted to even use the zip line facilities at Freemont Street to sail overhead the tourists on the walkway.
And just in passing, while visiting the more "downplayed" downtown core, the class made an impromptu visit to the Pawn Stars location to investigate the micro-economy of pawning and trading underway within the city.

Ed Mazria Talk
To end the busy day of academic pursuits, the Ryerson University students were presented an extremely rare opportunity to hear Ed Mazria speak about the 2030 Challenge and the nature of contemporary architecture as an unprecedented burden on the environment. His talk was presented by the local AIA chapter and not surprisingly a familiar face showed up to introduce Ed Mazria prior to the talk (fortunately it was Jeffrey Roberts, who also serves as the current president of the AIA Las Vegas).
UNLV Charette
Today the Ryerson University and University of Nevada, Las Vegas Architecture students met up to collaborate on their respective projects. For the UNLV students, it was an opportunity to impart their knowledge on arid design and vernacular construction practice to their Canadian colleagues. For the Ryerson University students, this collaboration allowed them to bring a greater level of presentation, structure, and design consistency to the UNLV students.
Conducted as a series of desk reviews, the UNLV students presented their religious facility designs whereas the Ryerson students presented their smaller sacred spaces within the hypothetical Mojave (Springs Preserve) climate. The discussions that ensued were lively and quite engaging as students from both institutions offered constructive criticism to the possibilities each design had to offer.
